About me
I am a PhD candidate at the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University Boston and junior fellow at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna. I am supervised by Brennan Klein and work in close collaboration with with Dima Krioukov, Tina Eliassi-Rad, and Sam Scarpino.
My research lies at the intersection of complex systems and machine learning. I am interested in how system-level outcomes emerge from local interactions among a system’s components. On one side, I approach this question using mathematical and computational models of networks and dynamical processes on them. On the other side, I study when and how modern machine learning and AI can reliably be applied to complex systems. This often requires treating uncertainty explicitly and accounting for the fact that systems may adapt in response to predictions.
Background
I received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Physics from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where I worked on projects in theoretical particle physics with Magarete Mühlleitner and quantum technology with Wolfgang Wernsdorfer.
I continued my education in the Computational Science Master’s program at the University of Vienna. During my master thesis I worked with Stefan Thurner and Peter Klimek at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, on the propagation of shocks in food supply chain networks.
